Once you have taken the measures to eliminate any food, water and shelter sources, you can start to monitor and treat the situation.
- Start by setting out glue traps and monitors in areas that you suspect have high cockroach activity like the spaces between your refrigerator and wall, and behind furniture. The more cockroaches you find on one glue trap, the more activity there is in that particular area. A Roach Lure Tab can significantly increase the effectiveness of an insect monitor.
- Use Diatomaceous Earth or Insecticide dusts. These dusts work to kill roaches by lacerating their body’s protective outer layer exoskeleton with tiny glass-like shards that deteriorates and dries them out, eventually killing them. Diatomaceous Earth is best used in small amounts in those hard-to-reach areas like behind cabinets.
- Insecticidal spray can be used to treat cracks, crevices and spots along and behind baseboards, beneath furniture and equipment, around garbage containers, floors and other places where insects hide or are seen. Spraying hiding places such as baseboards, moist areas, around sinks, drains and pipes, behind cabinets and other storage areas. As always, refer to product labels before using any insecticidal spray.
