One product stands out among these top performers:

The #1 ant killer in Canada in 2026 is Green Way Ant Bait Gel, report Pest HQ experts.

#1 ant killer Green Way Ant Bait Gel – What is it and how does it work?

Green Way Ant Bait Gel is a viscous product applied with a syringe in small amounts to areas where ants are active. Its sweet ‘honeydew’ formula attracts ants, which carry the bait back to the ant colony. There it is shared and fed to other ants, including the queen and young ants.

In addition to a sweet lure, the bait contains boron. Boron is a natural pesticide that acts slowly. This allows time for worker ants to bring the bait back to the colony and disperse it before it kills them.

Green Way Ant Bait Gel can be used indoors and outdoors to control nuisance ants. Use the syringe to apply a pea-sized amount of bait to areas where ants are active and that are inaccessible to children and pets. This includes cracks and crevices around doors and windows, behind baseboards and in wall voids. Bait also can be placed in refillable indoor or outdoor bait stations. Stations reduce bait exposure to pets, children and weather.

Place bait drops or filled stations every 1.5 to 3 metres apart where ants are numerous. Each syringe covers about 8 metres.

Because ants come in from outdoors, you’ll want to place stations where ants are entering the building.  Put them in shaded areas or create shade for the stations; avoid placing them in direct sunlight as sunlight breaks down the bait and makes it less effective.

Wash hands thoroughly before handling bait stations to remove any odours repellent to ants. This includes odours from tobacco, garlic and chemical cleaners.

Monitor bait amounts daily. Refill stations and reapply pea-sized bait drops while ants are actively taking the bait. Don’t let the ants run out of bait or they will seek a new food source elsewhere.

Use ant killer bait like a pest professional

To succeed at killing ants, you need more than the best ant control products. You also need to do the following, advise Pest HQ experts.

Know the ant species you’re dealing with. Not all ants act the same. The more you know how a species behaves and where it nests, the better equipped you are to get rid of the ants. Identify the 7 most common pest ant species in Canada.

Read and follow the label on ant killer packaging. The label is the law in Canada. It provides instructions for where you can use the product, how to use it, in what amounts, the personal protective equipment you should wear, and how to dispose of leftover material.

Follow the ant trail. Follow the ants to know where they are coming from and going to. Be patient and use a flashlight. Ants lay down pheromones, creating a trail for other ants to follow. They will lead you to what attracted them in the first place. Get tips for following ant trails.

Remove competing food. If you find the ants are feeding on a food item, remove it and put a bait station(s) in its place. Wipe up crumbs and grease but don’t disinfect the area with vinegar, pesticide sprays, foggers or cleaners. You want the ant pheromone trail to remain intact so the ants can find the bait.

Give it time. Depending on the size of the colony, it may take several days (or more) for the bait to eliminate the ants. During this time, make sure bait stations are filled. Do not spray trailing ants with pesticides or natural sprays. This will repel the ants temporarily and delay the process of getting bait to the queen.
