Prevention is a great way to ensure that cockroaches stay out! Follow the below steps to make sure they do.
- Always be on the lookout. Especially if you live in a multi-unit dwelling such as an apartment building, condominium or if you reside in a townhouse, or row house where walls are shared. Keep your eyes peeled for live and dead cockroaches, egg casings and roach droppings. If you start to smell a strange musty odour, this could be an indication of roaches.
- Keep your home clean and tidy. This will aid in keeping cockroaches away. Make a habit of vacuuming daily to rid of any dirt and food particles which may have fallen to the floor. Pay special attention to the kitchen area. Clean up dishes in the sink (do not let them sit dirty overnight).
- Pay special attention to moist areas within your home. Check for leaky pipes in your kitchen and washrooms. Fix as soon as possible.
- Go on the hunt for repairs. Thoroughly inspect your home to see if there is anything in need of repairs. Seal any open gaps that you find around pipes. Use caulking for filling smaller gaps in the kitchen and washrooms. Fixing any areas of ingress using copper mesh will help to keep more than just cockroaches out!
