3. Sleeping with the light on keeps bed bugs away.
FALSE. Bed bugs are attracted to carbon dioxide and body heat. Humans generate both. During sleep, you are still, which makes it easier for them to find you. Bed bugs prefer the dark, but hungry ones feed when lights are on and in the daytime.

4. Bed bugs live for a long time.
TRUE. Bed bugs live for nearly a year with access to blood and for several months without it. They hide in cracks, crevices and seams of furniture, mattresses and box springs; behind baseboards, electrical outlet covers and in luggage. Bed bugs quickly beget more bed bugs. One female can lay more than 500 eggs in her lifetime.
