Mechanical Pest Control is a more physical or hands-on approach to excluding and removing pests. It includes the use of equipment and/or devices in order to make the environment unsuitable, obtain control and eventually eliminate pests.
A variety of tools and methods can be used:
- Light traps and Flying Insect Traps work to attract and kill flies and other insect pests.
- No-kill mousetraps such as the Ketch-All Mouse Trap or the The Little Pete® Multiple Catch Mouse Trap or the Repeater™ Multiple Catch Mouse Trap are all great alternatives for catch and release pest control.
- Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is considered a natural mechanical insecticide which is a great alternative to chemical pesticides. Made from microscopic fossils, Diatomaceous Earth is a fine yet abrasive powder that injures insects exoskeleton. DE is non toxic to birds and mammals.
- HEPA Vacuums can be very effective in pest control. This method removes insects, egg casings, droppings and other debris left behind. Vacuuming is also very effective in eliminating allergens left behind by pests such as cockroaches and rodents.
- Exclusion devices such as copper mesh are helpful in keeping pests from accessing your home. Use Roban Barrier to seal cracks and holes helps prevents ingress from rodents and other pests.
The above are all good and environmentally friendly methods of pest control that will work in your home and garden.
