It was the worst bed bug infestation an Arizona exterminator had ever seen: “The bed bugs were an inch or inch-and-a-half-deep in the carpet,” he told KKTV News.
The Arizona resident had battled bed bugs in her home for five years without success, living in horrific conditions among “tens of thousands of bed bugs.”
To keep a bed bug infestation from spiraling out of control, be prepared and do the following, advised experts at Pest HQ:
- Learn about bed bugs. Know what they look like, how they behave and the signs of bed bug activity, including what bed bug bites look like.
- Inspect regularly. If you travel, have overnight visitors, or use public transportation or lockers at work or school, you are more likely to pick up bed bugs, which are crafty hitchhikers. Thoroughly inspect your luggage, purse, backpack, mattress, couch, recliner, motorized wheelchair, mobility scooter and wherever you sleep or spend time lounging in your home.
- Take proven steps to eliminate bed bugs. Use only professional-grade control products and techniques recommended by Pest HQ – not unsafe internet remedies. These include traps/monitors, mattress encasements, and nature-based dust and sprays. Pest HQ sells discounted product bundles that ship fast or can be picked up in store.
- Prevent future bed bug infestations. Be bed-bug aware and reduce your risk of bringing the pests into your home.
